Static Displays

There are a number of static displays at the North Atlantic Aviation Museum, which are periodically changed, rearranged, and added to.  A selection of these displays are featured on this page.  Please visit the museum to see others!

This is a brand new display which showcases the story of a B17 Flying Fortress which crashed in Labrador.  There is a model of the aircraft as well as a route map and other important historical information.  The actual wreckage of this aircraft has been salvaged and shipped to Gander and is now property of North Atlantic Aviation Museum.
This display houses a number of photographs and excerpts having to do with Ferry Command.  Ferry Command was a group of mainly civilian pilots who ferried the first planes directly across the Atlantic ocean without making stops at Greenland.

This monument is the Newfoundland Airmen's Memorial, which is situated inside the North Atlantic Aviation Museum.  As a fundraiser, and for upkeep of the monument, shares can be purchased at the museum gift shop for $5.00 each. This is our display on the tragedy of 1985.  On December 12th of 1985, 256 persons, most of which were soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division based in Kentucky, lost their lives in the worst commercial aviation accident in Canadian history.  The crash site is five minutes from the museum and is accessible by motor vehicle.
